Biography Daniel Wallis work combines found objects with subtle, intricate craftsmanship. His diverse forms contain an underlying poeticism often imbued with humorous interpretations of the world around us. Wallis explores and re-contextualises quotidian motifs and forms (see Ostrich Lamp and La-Z-boy chair, both 2007) transforming his source material (a lamp, a chair) from functional to contemplative objects. In so doing Walliss sculptures invite us to re-consider the humour, beauty and precariousness of our surroundings. Equally Wallis more formal investigations (see Beacons and Cock and Ball Story, both 2007) offer a more abstracted understanding of our relation to objects in space and how forms sit together. Side-stepping outspoken social comment or a rigorous, investigative ardour, his broad range of work nevertheless invites the viewer to re-engage with objects as well as the space - and world - within which they function.
Daniel Wallis lives and works in Reading.
